What are Facebook Community Standards?

Facebook is a worldwide community where millions of people connect with each other. Each of these people represents unique opinions, ideals and cultural values. Out of consideration for this variety, we work to foster surroundings where everyone can openly discuss issues and express their views, while respecting the rights of others.

As a trust community of friends, family, co-worker and generation, Facebook is largely self-regulated. People who use Facebook can and do report happy that they find questionable or offensive. To balance the needs and happiness of a worldwide community we ask everyone to respect the following content principles:
  • Threats
  • Promoting Self-Harm
  • Bullying and Harassment
  • Hate Speech
  • Graphic Violence
  • Sex and Nudity
  • Theft, Vandalism & Fraud
  • Identity and Privacy
  • Intellectual Property
  • Phishing and spam
Report, if you find anyone who violates the Facebook Community Standards!

European Commission going to Slap Facebook

European Commission going to Slap Facebook
The European Commission is preparing a Directive to avert Facebook from sharing users’ information — such as their political viewpoint and place — with advertisers unless users purposely allow it.

According to The Telegraph, the Directive — which will be part of an update to current data protection laws — is scheduled for early January release. Should Facebook fail to adjust its privacy settings in compliance with the new legislation, the social network could face prosecution and/or a heavy fine.

Facebook, for its part, says that it shares data incognito and in amassed to advertisers, and that individuals’ own details are not at risk.

This is not the foremost time Facebook has been scrutinized by the European merger. In June 2009, the EU laid out privacy guidelines for social networks, and in June of this year, EU regulators began investigating Facebook’s facial recognition system.

Earlier this month, Facebook released details about how it tracks its 800 million users across the web.

facebook ticker got monetize

facebook ticker got monetize
yes, its True! now your Facebook ticker will show Sponsored Stories. so one more change from Facebook.

the ticker first appeared to mixed reviews when Facebook revamped News Feed in early September.

It’s intended to be a repository for those quick, repetitive messages or “vicky and Mack" are now friends,” leaving meatier status updates to the main feeds.

but now, as mentioned earlier, facebook going to show sponsored stories in ticker feeds.
Million's of people already hated ticker, as its leaves the Privacy concern. now if it also going to show some other stories (links) then mostly people going to hate facebook a lot!

The inclusion of sponsored posts among regular ones will be familiar to any user of Twitter, Digg, and other networks. Sponsored content in various “feeds” is rapidly becoming the norm in social media, although most services clearly mark the content as such.

so if any new person who is not familiar with all this social media channel, who want to try this all, are gonna confused, all social media (twitter,Digg, facebook) are showing Sponsored Stories in their regular feeds, that might be disappoint any new user and FORCE him/her to join some other site.

How To : Measure Facebook Page Engagement

Are you trying to figure out how much your fans really like you or your brand? This guide outlines a few things you should never miss when monitoring your Facebook page performance.

Monitoring Active Users

While most companies pay attention to the number of fans as the greatest metric of success, measuring your active users is much more important. Fortunately, Facebook provides detailed information about daily, weekly, and monthly active users on your page. You can find this information in tFacebook’s insights area. While these numbers will differ from one page to the next, the most important thing is to strive to increase the number of active users you have.
The best way to accomplish this is to post regular high-quality updates that get users to post comments and likes.

Daily Story Feedback

While engagement numbers include the number of impressions you get on each post, your ultimate goal should be to boost likes and comments on each posting. Compelling content that drives people to respond to your posts is important to boosting your overall numbers. Ultimately, the more your fans engage with your content, the more people that will see it. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by asking questions which generate a significant response from your fans.
You can monitor all interactions on the main insights page as pictured below.
If you aren’t receiving comments or likes (relative to the size of your overall fan base), there’s a good chance that you’ll begin to see your post impressions drop. As such, comments and likes are the most important metrics to focus on.

Top Stories

Rather than just viewing overall content, you can also view the success of each individual post. Facebook provides data for each individual posting that you can view at the bottom of each story you publish (as highlighted below).
While viewing each post’s insights will provide a decent amount of feedback, your top posts will help provide the most insight on what type of content your fans are most responsive to. Overtime you should be able to post similar content that generates greater responses from your fan base and effectively boost your overall engagement and reach. By clicking on details next to the “Interactions” area pictured above, you can get to the top posts area.
I prefer to sort by Feedback (as pictured below) in order to determine what posts were most effective. Replicating this content should hopefully result in a greater response from your fans.

Like Acquisition Channels

While the first thing you should focus on is increasing engagement among your existing fan base, you’ll want to also expand your reach. This comes through optimizing your various fan acquisition channels. Fortunately, Facebook provides detailed information about where your new fans are coming from. By visiting your insights area and then navigating to the area labeled “users,” you’ll be able to view the new likes sources chart (pictured below).
You should focus on two things: your largest sources and those sources with the greatest room for improvement. For our page, our blog is the greatest source of new fans. As such, we focus on optimizing the placement of likes around our website. For some pages, suggestions are the greatest source. For those pages, asking fans to refer their friends to your page can have significant results.

Monitor And Adjust

As you monitor your insights, you can make adjustments to the types of content you post over time. This can include the types of media (photos, videos, links/articles, status updates, etc), the time of day, and the frequency of posting. I highly recommend exporting this data to excel or another spreadsheet tool in order to track your performance over time. Alternatively, you can sign up for a free account with our AllFacebook Statsproduct which lets you track your page performance and your competitors’ page performance over time and export that data if necessary.
Do you have any questions or suggestions for other page administrators? Please post them in the comments section below!

Court to Winklevoss Twins: Facebook Settlement Stands, Time To Move On

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss must accept their $65 million settlement from Facebook and move on.
A U.S. appeals court ruled Monday that the settlement — which was featured in the movie The Social Network — still stands, despite the Winklevosses’ claim that Facebook did not disclose an accurate valuation.
The suit stems from the Winklevosses’ claim that Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for the social-networking site. Zuckerberg and Facebook deny the allegations, but agreed to settle in 2008. Since then, the Winklevoss twins have attempted to secure a higher settlement by claiming that Facebook is guilty of securities fraud.
“The Winklevosses are not the first parties bested by a competitor who then seek to gain through litigation what they were unable to achieve in the marketplace,” Chief Judge Alex Kozinski wrote in today’s ruling. “And the courts might have obliged, had the Winklevosses not settled their dispute and signed a release of all claims against Facebook.”
With both the district court and appeals court in agreement, it seems this may be the end of the Winklevosses’ claim to any additional shares of Facebook.
“For whatever reason, they (the Winklevosses) now want to back out. Like the district court, we see no basis for allowing them to do so,” Kozinski wrote. “At some point, litigation must come to an end. That point has now been reached.”

7 Million Fans Like Leo Messi’s Facebook Page in 7 Hours

Seven hours after Argentine soccer player Leo Messi started a Facebook Page, he has almost 7 million Likes as of Wednesday afternoon.
To put that number into perspective, it’s nearly 40% as many Likes as U.S. President Barack Obama has on his Facebook Page and about 30% as many as Justin Bieber fans have contributed to the pop star’sFacebook Page — but Messi’s Likes were gathered in hours, not years.
Messi, who plays for FC Barcelona and is considered by many to be the best soccer player in the world, wrote in a translated welcome message on the page, “Hola! Welcome to everyone. Thank you very much for the great number of messages that I have received. I am so excited! From now on we will be more closely connected … through Facebook.”
Lady Gaga beat Obama to 10 million Likes last summer, but we can’t remember another celebrity nearing the milestone so quickly. We’ve reached out to Facebook about whether Messi has set a Facebook record.
Update: Some commenters have suggested that Messi may have automatically transferred fans from his unofficial pages to his official page. While Facebook allows businesses to merge place pages with fan pages and to turn personal profile pages into fan pages, there’s not a public option to merge multiple fan pages. We’ve reached out to Facebook about whether Messi’s page administrator negotiated a merge with a Facebook representative.

How to Tag Your Friends In Facebook Comments

Tagging friends on updates are fun. First it was launched for Facebook photographs which enabled the user to tag his/her friends on the uploaded photographs. It is a great way of notifying your friends that, dude you are part of the wonderful memories in the photographs.
After a few months they were launched for Facebook status updates to mention your friend having the common interest. Now Facebook have launched the feature that allow you to tag your friend in comment to invite them over the discussion.

How to Tag Friends in Facebook Comments

Tagging a friend in comments is same as tagging some one in the status update. Just use ‘@’ sign followed by your friend name and select the friend from a drop down list.
comment tag
Its great feature introduced by Facebook and will help one to invite his/her friend over the discussion but one thing that’s bothering me is the notification bar. People misuse the Photo tagging with out giving it much concern leaving the Facebook notification bar in a mess with spam updates. God knows what this change will bring upon us.

Facebook Acquires Group Messaging Startup Beluga

Facebook has snapped up yet a new tech starupTuesday’s achievement is Beluga, a startup that allows users to send instant group messages, photos and location information across various platforms.

The startup’s contribution is similar to other apps like GroupMe (which just got location and image sharing in a recent revamp).

In a report on the Beluga website, we read that the startup’s founders are “excited to continue to build our vision for mobile group messaging as part of the Facebook team. Beluga and Facebook are committed to create new and better ways to communicate and share group experiences.”
Whether that means that Beluga will exist as its own entity, or as a separate Facebook feature, or even as supporting technology behind something much larger remains unknown. The founders did say that the service will continue to function “for now” and that user data won’t be lost.
More details will be available from Beluga and Facebook in the next few weeks.

Zynga’s FrontierVille To Hype Premiere of Johnny Depp’s New Film

Rango, the Johnny Depp-voiced chameleon whose self-titled movie is set to hit theaters this weekend, will have a cameo role in Zynga’s FrontierVille to help encourage the release.

Starting at the moment, FrontierVille players will be challenged to find Rango, ask their associates for 10 water buckets and outlook the trailer for the film. If they complete that mission, players get a Rango statue to add to their homestead on FrontierVille.

The encouragement is the first time Zynga has worked with Paramount Pictures, but the group has used its games to publicize movie openings before. currently, Zynga’s Mafia Wars plugged Sony Pictures’s The Green Hornet by offering collectibles within the game. Zynga also promoted DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind on FarmVille with Mega-Farm, a themed attraction within the game.

Manny Anekal, Zynga’s global director of brand advertising for Zynga, says that while there are no figures linking activity on those games to bigger box office take, some 19 million people are active FrontierVille users and 9 million interacted with the Megamind promo.

This is the latest promo to offer a prize for watching a trailer on Facebook. Last week, NBC offered a buy-one-get-one-free deal from Chiptotle for watching a preview for America’s Next Great Restaurant, a new reality show.

While such promos are efficient at getting users to click play, it’s unclear if they’re actually watching the video or if they’re more apt to watch the advertised belongings. Chris Thilk, who runs the blog Movie Marketing Madness, says that while it’s hard to tell if the promos actually increase audience, gameplayers at least don’t seem to mind. “The promotions add functionality to game play,” he says. “As long as it’s not just an ad, I think the audience will be more forgiving.”

Apple Testing Gesture-Based Lock Screen for the iPhone?

Apple is testing a new type of lock screen on the iPhone, similar to the gesture-based lock screen on Android phones, 9to5Mac reports.
The screen is based on a 3×3 dot grid, and the user must swipe the dots in a correct sequence to unlock the device.
The lock/unlock system and even the look of the application seem to be nearly identical to the Android version, which is why 9to5Mac speculates that this new lock screen will never reach the hands of the consumers.
Instead, it is likely to be used internally, for example in the apps used by Apple retail store employees. What do you think? Would you like to see this type of lock screen on your iOS device? Please, share your opinions in the comments.

A Mixed Night For The Social Network

It was a great night for The King’s Speech and Inception at the 83rd Academy Awards Sunday — and a somewhat more disappointing outcome for their main rival, David Fincher’s The Social Network.
Fincher’s movie, a fictionalized account of the rise of Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, won a total of three Oscars. Writer Aaron Sorkin, also known for West Wing and A Few Good Men, won Best Adapted Screenplay (it was based on Ben Mezrich’s book “The Accidental Billionaires”), while Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor won Best Original Score for the movie’s haunting music. It also won an award for Best Film Editing.
But The Social Network had been nominated for a total of eight awards — and had been hotly tipped for Best Picture until The King’s Speech started picking up buzz several months ago. It failed to win for cinematography, Best Actor, Best Director or Best Picture. The King’s Speech won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Colin Firth. Chris Nolan’s dream-within-a-dream Inception also won five, including Best Special Effects for its stunning computer-generated imagery.
For The Social Network‘s fans, it will be especially disappointing that the movie won awards for sound, vision and script — but apparently was not better than the sum of those parts. And in what seemed almost like a snub, Sorkin’s acceptance speech was the only one to be cut short by the Academy’s “play them out” music.
Still, for a movie that’s all about a nerd who fights to be popular but fails to fit in, it seems an appropriate outcome.
