Facebook or Fakebook? - More then 83 Million Facebook Accounts are Fake

In The Recent Report From 10-Q filing, Facebook accepted that more then 83 million accounts are fake, which is almost equal to the size of Egypt’s population. :O

83 million, it means total 8.7% accounts of Facebook are fake and out of this 8.7%, 4.8% are duplicate facebook accounts.

The Actual data is much more than the fact, as in the last march data filling, facebook official says that 40.3 million to 50.7 million accounts (4-6%) are fake. So with this, Facebook’s latest claim of 955 million active users would be downgraded to 872 million.

Facebook also says that they daily bans 20k plus accounts and 6,00,000 accounts are compromised. This data are huge and reason, advertisers are running away from facebook.

Facebook Status Character Limit is 60,000 - Update

Facebook Status Character Limit is 60,000 - Update
Facebook updated its status limit from 500 to 5,000 in September, and today announced its limit is now over 60,000!

That’s 1/9th the length of a novel. This gives users the flexibility to note down full-fledged blog posts or even longer content. However, I believe that Facebook was also annoying to neutralize one more selling point of its competitor.

i guess how it chose 63,206? Facebook engineer Bob Baldwin wrote, “I set the exact limit to something nerdy. Facebook … Face Boo K … hex(FACE) – K … 64206 – 1000 = 63206 “, in response to VP of Engineering Mike Schroepfer ’s post of the statement..

So now you can write post with more than 60,000 characters, including status, group and wall posts.

I'm liking Twitter more and more these days just because of that limit, actually. I don't have time to read a novel every time I want to network socially. If I'm not close friends with someone, all I want to do is hear their latest music recommendations or see their latest find for a funny video. I can skip short banality pretty easily, but the long stuff is a bit attention-grabbing...at least for me.

European Commission going to Slap Facebook

European Commission going to Slap Facebook
The European Commission is preparing a Directive to avert Facebook from sharing users’ information — such as their political viewpoint and place — with advertisers unless users purposely allow it.

According to The Telegraph, the Directive — which will be part of an update to current data protection laws — is scheduled for early January release. Should Facebook fail to adjust its privacy settings in compliance with the new legislation, the social network could face prosecution and/or a heavy fine.

Facebook, for its part, says that it shares data incognito and in amassed to advertisers, and that individuals’ own details are not at risk.

This is not the foremost time Facebook has been scrutinized by the European merger. In June 2009, the EU laid out privacy guidelines for social networks, and in June of this year, EU regulators began investigating Facebook’s facial recognition system.

Earlier this month, Facebook released details about how it tracks its 800 million users across the web.

Tulalip : Answer to Google + ,Twitter and Facebook from Microsoft?

Weeks after Google launched Google+, rumors have begun making the rounds that Microsoft  is working on its own social networking platform (Tulalip). The word ‘Tulalip’ is an Indian tribe located just north of Seattle. It offers a welcome note saying, “find what you need and share what you know”.

The image appeared briefly on a site with the URL "Socl.com," according to a report on Fusible.com. The image has since disappeared. Later, the Socl.com website displayed only a message stating that Socl.com is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the Web. "We didn't mean to, honest," the message reads.

A Whois registry search and a DNS lookup for Socl.com indicate Microsoft owns the URL.

That raises the question: Was the exposure of Tulalip on Socl.com really an accident, as Microsoft claims, or is it really part of a wily marketing campaign to stir up interest in Microsoft's offerings and take some of the attention away from Google+?

Microsoft isn't telling.

"We have no more information at this time," Microsoft spokesperson Jackie Lawrence echoed that statement in response to a request for comment.

How To : Measure Facebook Page Engagement

Are you trying to figure out how much your fans really like you or your brand? This guide outlines a few things you should never miss when monitoring your Facebook page performance.

Monitoring Active Users

While most companies pay attention to the number of fans as the greatest metric of success, measuring your active users is much more important. Fortunately, Facebook provides detailed information about daily, weekly, and monthly active users on your page. You can find this information in tFacebook’s insights area. While these numbers will differ from one page to the next, the most important thing is to strive to increase the number of active users you have.
The best way to accomplish this is to post regular high-quality updates that get users to post comments and likes.

Daily Story Feedback

While engagement numbers include the number of impressions you get on each post, your ultimate goal should be to boost likes and comments on each posting. Compelling content that drives people to respond to your posts is important to boosting your overall numbers. Ultimately, the more your fans engage with your content, the more people that will see it. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by asking questions which generate a significant response from your fans.
You can monitor all interactions on the main insights page as pictured below.
If you aren’t receiving comments or likes (relative to the size of your overall fan base), there’s a good chance that you’ll begin to see your post impressions drop. As such, comments and likes are the most important metrics to focus on.

Top Stories

Rather than just viewing overall content, you can also view the success of each individual post. Facebook provides data for each individual posting that you can view at the bottom of each story you publish (as highlighted below).
While viewing each post’s insights will provide a decent amount of feedback, your top posts will help provide the most insight on what type of content your fans are most responsive to. Overtime you should be able to post similar content that generates greater responses from your fan base and effectively boost your overall engagement and reach. By clicking on details next to the “Interactions” area pictured above, you can get to the top posts area.
I prefer to sort by Feedback (as pictured below) in order to determine what posts were most effective. Replicating this content should hopefully result in a greater response from your fans.

Like Acquisition Channels

While the first thing you should focus on is increasing engagement among your existing fan base, you’ll want to also expand your reach. This comes through optimizing your various fan acquisition channels. Fortunately, Facebook provides detailed information about where your new fans are coming from. By visiting your insights area and then navigating to the area labeled “users,” you’ll be able to view the new likes sources chart (pictured below).
You should focus on two things: your largest sources and those sources with the greatest room for improvement. For our page, our blog is the greatest source of new fans. As such, we focus on optimizing the placement of likes around our website. For some pages, suggestions are the greatest source. For those pages, asking fans to refer their friends to your page can have significant results.

Monitor And Adjust

As you monitor your insights, you can make adjustments to the types of content you post over time. This can include the types of media (photos, videos, links/articles, status updates, etc), the time of day, and the frequency of posting. I highly recommend exporting this data to excel or another spreadsheet tool in order to track your performance over time. Alternatively, you can sign up for a free account with our AllFacebook Statsproduct which lets you track your page performance and your competitors’ page performance over time and export that data if necessary.
Do you have any questions or suggestions for other page administrators? Please post them in the comments section below!

There Is One Thing Missing From Google’s +1

David Berkowitz is Senior Director of Emerging Media & Innovation for digital marketing agency 360i, where he develops social media and mobile programs for marketers spanning the media & entertainment, retail, travel, and CPG industries.

Something about Google’s +1 doesn’t add up.
The search giant’s social media initiative, well covered by this outlet, represents a big change in thinking. The concept, revolutionary enough, is that instead of trusting a search engine’s algorithm to deliver the most relevant search results, one should trust their friends’ preferences, along with the preferences of all other searchers.
Both concepts are viable today. Generally speaking, Internet users are well accustomed to receiving recommendations from friends, solicited and unsolicited, and then acting on them. We are also largely comfortable trusting the feedback of strangers, whether they tell us a book on Amazon is worth reading, a hotel on TripAdvisor is clean, or a restaurant on Yelp has the best lobster frittata you’ve ever tasted.
A big selling point of sites like Amazon, TripAdvisor and Yelp is the input of millions of consumers. If those sites relied solely on algorithmically generated recommendations without consumer input, they might not be nearly as successful. Yet with search, we are so dependent on the algorithm. Search is so complicated that an algorithm better know what’s more relevant, or all hope is lost. Why trust our friends and strangers when we can trust the masterwork of the world’s best engineers slaving away for over a decade?
With +1, Google told us to change. This process of change has three significant challenges:
  • We must notice that the results are different. After a decade of habitually scanning headlines and brief textual synopses, it’s hard to notice anything else.
  • We must act on a +1 listing, which then brings up some information about Google Profiles and a whole new system that for many will be an added hindrance. The beauty of search to date has been its simplicity for the users – enter a query and click a result, ad infinitum.
  • We must notice the +1 votes from peers and others, realize that these are different, and act on them accordingly.
  • All of these challenges to the process pale in comparison to a challenge of perception that can shake the foundations of Google’s image. The +1 listings must be different enough for users to care. If the results with the most +1’s are dramatically different from the order proffered by Google’s algorithm, that means either the people or the algorithm are wrong. Which listing should users trust?
Google for once is ambiguous, suggesting that there are two right answers. In reality, the difference between the two answers must be small, as for the vast majority of queries, there are only 10 natural results displayed out of potentially millions or billions of pages, so Google’s algorithm remains the true arbiter. Yet it still feels like there’s a chance for Google to be wrong, and that goes against more than a decade of users’ faith in the doctrine of Google infallibility.
What +1 lacks most is Facebook. Soon after +1 launched, a browser plug-in was released that shows the number of Facebook “Likes” for any search listing in Google. While the plug-in is currently a bit sluggish, it is fast enough to make its likes far more noticeable than +1’s. Facebook’s concept of liking has been ingrained quickly enough to catch on, so it also benefits from a “first mover” advantage.
via mashable.com
That in turn reveals the answer to our mathematical problems. Google +1 will forever be -1 as long as it doesn’t incorporate Facebook activity. Today, at least, Facebook has the richest data for most Internet users’ social connections. Yet there is value in Google +1 with peers influencing search results, so Google +1 without Facebook adds up to far more than zero. How much of a positive it is remains a mystery. Like most math problems throughout history, there is an answer out there, waiting to be discovered.

Court to Winklevoss Twins: Facebook Settlement Stands, Time To Move On

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss must accept their $65 million settlement from Facebook and move on.
A U.S. appeals court ruled Monday that the settlement — which was featured in the movie The Social Network — still stands, despite the Winklevosses’ claim that Facebook did not disclose an accurate valuation.
The suit stems from the Winklevosses’ claim that Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for the social-networking site. Zuckerberg and Facebook deny the allegations, but agreed to settle in 2008. Since then, the Winklevoss twins have attempted to secure a higher settlement by claiming that Facebook is guilty of securities fraud.
“The Winklevosses are not the first parties bested by a competitor who then seek to gain through litigation what they were unable to achieve in the marketplace,” Chief Judge Alex Kozinski wrote in today’s ruling. “And the courts might have obliged, had the Winklevosses not settled their dispute and signed a release of all claims against Facebook.”
With both the district court and appeals court in agreement, it seems this may be the end of the Winklevosses’ claim to any additional shares of Facebook.
“For whatever reason, they (the Winklevosses) now want to back out. Like the district court, we see no basis for allowing them to do so,” Kozinski wrote. “At some point, litigation must come to an end. That point has now been reached.”

7 Million Fans Like Leo Messi’s Facebook Page in 7 Hours

Seven hours after Argentine soccer player Leo Messi started a Facebook Page, he has almost 7 million Likes as of Wednesday afternoon.
To put that number into perspective, it’s nearly 40% as many Likes as U.S. President Barack Obama has on his Facebook Page and about 30% as many as Justin Bieber fans have contributed to the pop star’sFacebook Page — but Messi’s Likes were gathered in hours, not years.
Messi, who plays for FC Barcelona and is considered by many to be the best soccer player in the world, wrote in a translated welcome message on the page, “Hola! Welcome to everyone. Thank you very much for the great number of messages that I have received. I am so excited! From now on we will be more closely connected … through Facebook.”
Lady Gaga beat Obama to 10 million Likes last summer, but we can’t remember another celebrity nearing the milestone so quickly. We’ve reached out to Facebook about whether Messi has set a Facebook record.
Update: Some commenters have suggested that Messi may have automatically transferred fans from his unofficial pages to his official page. While Facebook allows businesses to merge place pages with fan pages and to turn personal profile pages into fan pages, there’s not a public option to merge multiple fan pages. We’ve reached out to Facebook about whether Messi’s page administrator negotiated a merge with a Facebook representative.

How to Tag Your Friends In Facebook Comments

Tagging friends on updates are fun. First it was launched for Facebook photographs which enabled the user to tag his/her friends on the uploaded photographs. It is a great way of notifying your friends that, dude you are part of the wonderful memories in the photographs.
After a few months they were launched for Facebook status updates to mention your friend having the common interest. Now Facebook have launched the feature that allow you to tag your friend in comment to invite them over the discussion.

How to Tag Friends in Facebook Comments

Tagging a friend in comments is same as tagging some one in the status update. Just use ‘@’ sign followed by your friend name and select the friend from a drop down list.
comment tag
Its great feature introduced by Facebook and will help one to invite his/her friend over the discussion but one thing that’s bothering me is the notification bar. People misuse the Photo tagging with out giving it much concern leaving the Facebook notification bar in a mess with spam updates. God knows what this change will bring upon us.
